Tell us a little bit about yourself: Who you are, where you’re from, what got you into writing in the first place, and what inspires you.
I live on the outskirts of Atlanta and have been writing since grade school. Nothing serious until a few years ago when I finally decided to do it. I wanted to write down a story that had been bouncing around in my head for a while.
Tell us a bit about your books and what you’re working on right now.
The Zombie Road series is the story of the outbreak and an eclectic group of survivors stranded in a truck stop. They have to make their way across the country to a safe zone. It’s a little different than most books in the genre, it follows a few separate story lines that meetup and clash or reunite at the end of the third book. The next three books in the series are more about the rebuilding of civilization and the rise of new ruthless leaders. I’m currently editing a spinoff book that features a group of kids and their wild animals that were introduced in book 5. The Feral Children will be released early in May.
What is it about the apocalyptic genre that you love? Why write books about it?
The apocalypse, not matter what causes it, is basically about starting over. It’s about billions of people dying, the towns and cities being reclaimed by nature and the survivors left behind to deal with it. I think it’s interesting to explore different scenarios of how the remaining people rebuild.
Name your favourite author or book.
Probably the Gunslinger series by Stephen King. Harry Potter series is a close second. They are well written and fairly modern. Robert Jordan’s the Wheel of Time series was great.
If you could be a character from a movie, who would it be and why?
Doctor Who. What could be more fun than time travel?
What is your top tip for surviving the apocalypse?
Assuming this is an instant apocalypse that includes grid down, if you don’t have the perfect bugout spot prepped and prepared, you’ll have to deal with it from your home. Water is the most important. Know how to get it, have the ability to treat it and make it drinkable.
